On August 29, Michael Jackson would turn 57 years old. I was searching to translate something for MJacksonTruth and there appeared a text about reasons why “we will miss Michael Jackson”. As I read it, it became clear that the author didn’t have any idea of what MJ’s contribution to art was. Moreover, he seemed quite influenced by all the lies that had been made up by the press all the previous years. He seemed to know nothing about his personality. This is how I decided to translate in English a text of MJacksonTruth, first appeared in 2011. Not because I believe that my text is better than any professional one but because I haven’t found any article presenting facts that I want to present to the public. You will allow me first to address a message to the Greek readers.
Why do we love Michael Jackson?
When we were younger, most of us were divided in two categories: those who wanted to change the world and the “neverminders”. As far as it concerns the first ones, few of them remained faithful to their principles and even fewer tried to achieve with their action what they had wished for.
Michael Jackson belonged to the faithful ones. Until his death, he preserved the innocence of the child inside him, the same innocent eyes and the same pure intentions. Indeed, if you look at his pictures, you will see that his glance never changed.
At least this is what his fans see. This is what see those who see with the heart, in contrast with the irrelevant bad intentioned ones who only see his color change, ignoring largely his illness, vitiligo.
If one said that his fans are so fanatic and so many only for his music, that would be a lie. Besides his music talent and artistic contribution are obvious. His biography tells everything: composer, lyric writer, dancer, choreographer, director’ qualities that he had with his biggest characteristic: perfectionism. And then he had received so many awards and set so many records… We don’t need to talk about his music contribution or stress that his fans love his art because numbers and facts talk by themselves. What I want to say is that, if it was only for his artistic contribution, then we would talk about the man-orchestra with the biggest sales of all time worldwide. But Michael Jackson isn’t just that. Michael Jackson was and is a human model, an imitation model and an outstanding personality. If he didn’t have his talent, he would have been a usual but good everyday person. But he had a huge talent, which, as he used to say, was God given, that this talent gave him power and that he wanted to use this power to help people. Does this sound excessive? Well, to him, it wasn’t. The man that the media called strange using the word “wacko” had an ambitious philanthropic vision and, in order to achieve it, he even made a fund, helped in every way Africa’s people, the poor and ill children and he always offered part of his concert revenues to philanthropic causes. By the way, how many of you do you know that he was awarded for his social action as the artist with the biggest number of charities?
Imagine a young man who is extremely good looking, very rich and absolutely successful on worldwide basis. Because this is what Michael Jackson was when he was, for instance, 22 years old. Think to how many people this happened and how many of them continued being successful or became arrogant and lost contact with reality or had a life full of addictions (drugs or alcohol) and a ridiculously intense sexual life with multiple partners. Michael Jackson never did any of these. He remained simple, decent, shy, humble and generous.
Look at him, at 24, with Thriller making a huge success worldwide. His character wasn’t influenced. He was humble and sophisticated. He was so humble that, when he was asked about his numerous fans, all he had to answer was that “It’s a good thing when people want to hug and touch me. If seeing me causes them something as good as that, then this is amazing”. He didn’t become arrogant, he didn’t take pride. All he was interested in was love and this is what he was looking for, even among his fans. And look how simple he was, when he talked about friendship. Like another Little Prince, who had been deprived of friends because he worked intensively since his childhood, when he was 24, he admitted it and said that he discovered friendship at that age.
Although he had everything, he continued being simple and humble. Besides he said in an interview:
“No matter what, the most powerful thing in the world is the human mind and prayer, and belief in your self and confidence and perseverance. No matter how many times you do it, you do it again until it’s right. And always believe in your self. And not matter who’s around you that’s being negative or thrusting negative energy at you, totally block it off. Because whatever you believe, you become. (…) and after all that, the most important — most important: Stay humble. The humbleness that a child, like a new born baby, has. Even though you become powerful or have power with people, with your talent .. like with what Michelangelo did with sculpting, you know, underneath all that be as humble as a child, as a baby, and be as kind and as giving and loving. Don’t become puffed up with pride”
Despite being famous and at the top of his career, he distributed religious texts in the roads (with people telling him that he looked like Michael Jackson), as he was a deeply religious person and he was shy and, above all, simple. He could have any woman he desired but he didn’t take advantage of it. He was totally different from what was presented in the stories that the trash media made up.
He was so simple that he kissed animals mouth to mouth, he would share his bed with them and treated them as being equal to him. He respected them and felt comfortably when he was with them. Animal lovers will understand why. Apart from the respect he felt towards nature, he felt comfortably with animals because they didn’t have man’s flaws and never judged him. What’s more, this happened throughout his life.
If other artists become arrogant and illogically demanding, then believing that Michael Jackson was like one of them is people’s fault-wrong impression. People or, at least, those who didn’t know him were afraid of his extreme success but this is only a false belief/attitude. His simplicity and humbleness were equal to or even bigger than his artistic size. When he wasn’t on stage, Michael Jackson played like a child, he was approachable and, knowing that he caused awe and embarrassment, he tried to make others feel comfortable and equal to him. When he was on tour, he would sleep in an awkward sitting position letting to others more space and would give his pillow to his co workers. In his everyday life, he would help an old lady, he would walk barefoot, he’d wear pajamas at his son’s birthday party, he’d climb trees, he’d play with dolls, he’d start his meal with watermelon and not with the main plate, he’d draw Mickey Mouse and he’d eat with his hands.
His simplicity can be clearly distinguished in the way he treated his fans. He would go out for coffee with some of them, he would always be approachable, he’d send them notes and even food and, above all, he’d satisfy their desire to meet him, even for a while. He felt how they felt!
Finally, one can understand how simple Michael Jackson was from the way he fought against media: directly. He’d either wear a funny jacket with a printed message mocking a journalist and he’d even hold a banner with a similar message. And he was funny, very funny. Sometimes this was natural and spontaneous and some others he did it on purpose because he wanted to make other people have fun.”
Michael Jackson was born on 29th of August 1958 and he never died.
